If God will go before me, in front of me, ahead of me – prepare my path up ahead… what have I to fear? What path are you on?
He will go before me: Matthew 9:9; Matthew 19:21; Ephesians 2:10; Proverbs 3:5-6; Psalm 119:105; Psalm 16:11; Psalm 18:33; Psalm 18:36; Judges 4:14; Psalm 23:3; Psalm 37:23; Psalm 139:3; Psalm 40:2; Genesis 24:7; Psalm 77:19; Psalm 97:11; Matthew 7:13-14.
As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew (Levi) sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me [as My disciple, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk].” And Matthew got up and followed Him.
Jesus answered him, “If you wish to be perfect [that is, have the spiritual maturity that accompanies godly character with no moral or ethical deficiencies], go and sell what you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk].”
For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].
Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
He makes my feet like hinds’ feet [able to stand firmly and tread safely on paths of testing and trouble]; He sets me [securely] upon my high places.
You enlarge the path beneath me and make my steps secure, So that my feet will not slip.
Deborah said to Barak, “Arise! For this is the day when the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. Has the Lord not gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him.
He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord, And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].
You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And You are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path.
The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, from the land of my family and my birth, who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you [to guide you], and you will take a wife from there for my son [and bring her here].
Your way [of escape for Your people] was through the sea, And Your paths through the great waters, And Your footprints were not traceable.
Light is sown [like seed] for the righteous and illuminates their path, And [irrepressible] joy [is spread] for the upright in heart [who delight in His favor and protection].
13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life, and there are few who find it.
What have I to fear?
“lean on God
with absolute trust
and confidence in Him
and in His power”
– Hebrews 6:11-12
I choose to trust God
…show the same diligence [all the way through] so as to realize and enjoy the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of [b]scoffers (ridiculers).
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.
And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season;
Its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
