The Apostle Paul warns Timothy, and us, about a great falling away from the true Gospel of Jesus during the End Times. We are in those times.
In the last days, “later times”, so called Christians (“so-called” because that is what they claim to be, but they were never actually “born again – reborn from above“, and thus are the tare amongst the wheat) – they will fall away from the faith (a “faith” they gave verbal assent to, but never let it change them, never were “sincere and truthful” about faith in Christ).

Instead of the Bible, they will pay attention to and follow after “deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons“. They will not put up with (“will not tolerate”) accurate biblical teachings – but, because they want what they want… these deceived church leaders will collect only those teachings that will “support the errors they hold”.
Must be nice, eh? Just believe what you want to believe – regardless of the plain and simple words of the Bible!
These apostate church leaders 1 “are corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth“. Actually, plain and simple, they are: “conceited and woefully ignorant [understanding nothing]”. With their mentality sold-out-to-the-Devil, their ways of thinking create “envy, quarrels, verbal abuse, evil suspicions”. They create “perpetual friction” – all because they want to “satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold….“
Passages quoted above:
1 Timothy 4:1
“But the Spirit explicitly says
that in later times
some will [a apostacize]
fall away from the faith,
paying attention to
deceitful spirits
and doctrines of demons“
2 Timothy 4:3
3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold… [Also read: Isaiah 29:13-16 World English Bible (WEB)]
1 Timothy 6:3-5
3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine and teaching which is in agreement with godliness (personal integrity, upright behavior), 4 he is conceited and woefully ignorant [understanding nothing]. He has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, which produces envy, quarrels, verbal abuse, evil suspicions, 5 and perpetual friction between men who are corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth, who think that godliness is a source of profit [a lucrative, money-making business—withdraw from them].
2 Corinthians 11:3-6
3 But I am afraid that, even as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning, your minds may be corrupted and led away from the simplicity of [your sincere and] pure devotion to Christ.
4 For [you seem willing to allow it] if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted. You tolerate all this beautifully [welcoming the deception]….
