Well, you may be
the sweetest thing
to grace your town bench,
a professing Christian,
a sweet old lady
who’s gone to church all your life,
one of the many
who raised their hand
and walked the aisle
to receive Christ as your Savior,
a professional with a resumé
saying your religious preference is
Methodist or Presbyterian (or any of them),
someone who loudly proclaims
to be a Christian,
a politician
that loves to have pictures taken
as you are exiting “your” church, or
a local yokel
raised by good Christian parents,
so close to Jesus (you think)
His Spirit talks through you,
…but,
if you are practicing sin in your life —
Scripture says,
“What the hell good does that do?!”
– Based on 2 Corinthians 13:5 and James 2:14-26
FOR MORE:
Is it a big deal to have some sin in my life? I was saved way back when. What difference does it make? After all, Jesus saves sinners – right?
__________
Practicing Sin – Not Following Christ
Me, When I Die…still in my sin…not forgiven by Christ
Balancing-out my faith with my practice Excerpt: You cannot balance-out your faith with practices that are heinous to God and expect God to change His ways for you. God does not use a balance scale. I cannot “balance-out my faith” by practicing sin.
“Test and evaluate yourselves
to see whether you are in the faith
and
living your lives as [committed] believers.
Examine yourselves
[not me]!
Or do you not recognize this about yourselves
[by an ongoing experience]
that Jesus Christ is in you
—unless indeed you fail the test
and are rejected
as counterfeit?”
– 2 Corinthians 13:5
The Bible is the standard for Christian thought and practice. Not me. Not you.
Staying alive. James 1: verses 2-4. Excerpt: The faithful have a faith that is staying alive day by day.
Faithfulness is a process. We live, we try, we fail, we sin – but the faithful then repent, turn to God again, and move on in faith, believing God that we will be stronger next time. The faithful develop a pattern of an overcoming faith. The pattern we strive towards, each day, is: we live, we conquer, we act by the power of the Holy Spirit. Believers do not accept sin in their life as normal and acceptable before God.
