about the biblical issues of
False Teachers, False Doctrines, & False Practices in churches
For more: See About False Teachings of Today and our list of most articles in one of the site Categories about: False Teachings
We are warned to carefully teach that which God has communicated to us, and to keep watch against those who will come out and present false teachings and unbiblical practices. We must always get down to what God actually means. Reject unbiblical personal opinions, and worse – reject those who seek to mislead Christians into their brand of false teachings, those who twist and misinterpret God’s Words.
See: Getting down to God’s meaning
“…no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
– 2 Peter 1:20-21
“Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I was compelled to write to you [urgently] appealing that you [a]fight strenuously for [the defense of] the faith which was once for all [b]handed down to the saints [the faith that is the sum of Christian belief that was given verbally to believers].”
– Jude 3 and Jude 4
Church Folk Heresies
We are told that “in later times” (which are our present times) we must be “holding fast the faithful word”. We are to teach and encourage others “in sound doctrine” and “refute those who contradict it” (Titus 1:9).
Through these following Bible verses – God warns that there are those in the church who will fall away from the faith, actually denying the Master (2 Peter 2:1-3), “who will subtly introduce destructive heresies”. “Many will follow their shameful ways.”
“In their greed they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine.”
Warn Against
According to Scripture: These who we are to warn against are “conceited and woefully ignorant [understanding nothing]”. They are “corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth” (1 Timothy 6:3-5). John goes as far as to say:
“They went out from us
[seeming at first to be Christians],
but they were not really of us….”
– 1 John 2:18-19)
Church leaders must follow through with what Paul says, in 1 Timothy 1:3-7: “instruct certain people not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths….”
“Woe to you…”
Luke 11:52 quotes Jesus who says about the Pharasaical lawyers of His day, “Woe to you…” — you who don’t even follow Jesus and because of this bad example you hold back others from believing. You mess with other people’s beliefs with “…your flawed interpretation of God’s word and your man-made tradition.”
As we at OhMyGodJesus.com teach against false teachers, some people misunderstand. In all of this… “the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith”. We do not do so to produce “envy, quarrels, verbal abuse, evil suspicions, and perpetual friction” (1 Timothy 6:3-5). We all must always be… Speaking with love about what is true and what is false.

The Bible’s strong warnings
These are the Bible’s strong warnings, not ours. And we must continue teaching the Bible in it’s entirety.
“The Bible is ‘a revelation of absolute reality'”
– a term by Reed in the ‘Heretic’ article by Cole Burgett
“Life is not just about me.” We must warn and keep watch over the flock and against those who would lead us astray. It is not just false apostles, false prophets, and false teachers. It is their pew-sitters, their members, who spread these teachings into our communities and lure others away from the Truth.
Be Aware. Be Berean. Know your Scriptures.

The multiple biblical warnings against false teachings
…and their apostles, their prophets, their teachers… and their pew-sitters
**These are the Scriptures full of warnings. See in one link or: Titus 1:9, 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Peter 2:1-3, 1 Timothy 6:3-5, 1 John 2:18-19, 1 Timothy 1:3-7, Luke 11:52, 1 John 4:5.
Titus 1:9
“…holding fast the faithful word
which is in accordance with the teaching,
so that he will be able both
to exhort in sound doctrine and
to refute those who contradict.”
1 Timothy 4:1
“But the Spirit explicitly says
that in later times
some will [a apostacize]
fall away from the faith,
paying attention to
deceitful spirits
and doctrines of demons”
2 Peter 2:1-3
But [in those days] false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways, and because of them the way of truth will be maligned. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine. Their sentence [of condemnation which God has decreed] from a time long ago is not idle [but is still in force], and their destruction and deepening misery is not asleep [but is on its way].
1 Timothy 6:3-5
3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine and teaching which is in agreement with godliness (personal integrity, upright behavior), 4 he is conceited and woefully ignorant [understanding nothing]. He has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, which produces envy, quarrels, verbal abuse, evil suspicions, 5 and perpetual friction between men who are corrupted in mind and deprived of the truth, who think that godliness is a source of profit [a lucrative, money-making business—withdraw from them].
1 John 2:18-19
18 Children, it is the last hour [the end of this age]; and just as you heard that the antichrist is coming [the one who will oppose Christ and attempt to replace Him], even now many antichrists (false teachers) have appeared, which confirms our belief that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us [seeming at first to be Christians], but they were not really of us [because they were not truly born again and spiritually transformed]; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out [teaching false doctrine], so that it would be clearly shown that none of them are of us.
1 Timothy 1:3-7
3 Just as I urged you [a]upon my departure for Macedonia, to remain on at Ephesus so that you would instruct certain people not to teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to [b]pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to useless speculation rather than advance [c]the plan of God, which is by faith, so I urge you now. 5 But the goal of our [d]instruction is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith. 6 Some people have strayed from these things and have turned aside to fruitless discussion, 7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.
Luke 11:52
Woe to you… because you have taken away the key to knowledge (scriptural truth). You yourselves did not enter, and you held back those who were entering [by your flawed interpretation of God’s word and your man-made tradition].”
1 John 4:5
“They [who teach twisted doctrine] are of the world and belong to it; therefore they speak from the [viewpoint of the] world [with its immoral freedom and baseless theories—demanding compliance with their opinions and ridiculing the values of the upright], and the [gullible one of the] world listens closely and pays attention to them.”

FOR MORE:
The Bible gives multiple biblical warnings against false teachings – their apostles, their prophets, and their teachers. Bible warnings are explicit as to what they teach, and who is teaching them. They are not merely “mistaken”. The warnings call them “apostate” and says they “are not of us”. They are not saved. Strong warnings, are they not. And we are to continue teaching the Bible in it’s entirety.
