What does the Lord require of you?
Read this verse again, but this time in the Amplified version:
Micah 6:8 Amplified Bible
8 He has told you, O man,
what is good;
And what does
the Lord require of you
Except to be just,
and to love
[and to diligently practice]
kindness (compassion),
And to walk humbly
with your God
[setting aside any overblown
sense of importance
or self-righteousness]?
We can know what God wants
All Scripture, OT and NT, is given to us to teach us God’s Way (2 Timothy 3:16). Read it and we know God’s thinking better.
“He has told you,
mortal man,
what is good.”
God has made it clear clear clear “what is good, and what is not“. These days most wish to forget what God has called “good”. Much of what folks call good, God calls bad. So where does that leave them with God? Are you “one of them”?
Does it matter – what you believe?
Remember
We must all remember… as Micah emphasized. The prophet of old, Micah, spoke of “what the Lord is saying” (Micah 6:verse 1) “Because the Lord has a case against His people” (v2). Micah said, “My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab planned.” (v5)
The Lord certainly “has a case against” America also, against all who are not repenting. We need to remember “what is good”.
“You walk by their plans”
Then Micah lowers the boom: (v16)
The statutes of Omri
And every work of the house of Ahab are maintained,
And you walk by their plans.
Therefore I will give you up for destruction
Balak king of Moab, and the house of Ahab, were among the “nations which have not obeyed” (Micah 5:verse 15). And “His people” were walking “by their plans”, the wicked plans of Balak and Ahab.
The God of Christians
The God of ancient Israel is the God of Christians too. He is the God of forgiveness and mercy, of pardon for wrongdoing. “He delights in mercy” (v18). God is love, forever forgiving.
But in this feel good moment of mercy and pardon, we must remember God is also The Damning God. God will pardon, but only when we repent. All in One, He is grace and condemnation, not just mercy and love.
He is asking us to turn from our sin, repent – and believe on the Name of Jesus. That’s a big deal. You can do it.
18 Who is a God like You, who pardons wrongdoing
And passes over a rebellious act of the remnant of His [a inheritance]possession?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
19 He will again take pity on us;
He will trample on our wrongdoings.
Yes, You will cast all [b]their sins
Into the depths of the sea.
20 You will give [c]truth to Jacob
And favor to Abraham,
Which You swore to our forefathers
From the days of old.
Is your way okay with God?
What good is it if we convince our self that our way is okay with God. In your heart of hearts you know you’re foolin’ yourself. Is that you?
The only humans entering heaven’s gate will be those sinners who confessed their sinfulness – and yielded their will completely (100%) to Christ in that moment of salvation. In that moment of time they were made brand new. They were freed from condemnation! Only sinners arrive in heaven… the redeemed sinners.
