– Matthew 6:24
…serving two masters
…whatever is valued more than the Lord.
24 No one can….
You cannot
What Jesus Taught …the most indicative of your beliefs?
Is what Jesus consistently taught us – the most indicative of your beliefs? Or have you drifted away from Him?
Spiritual drift can lead to slaving away at serving two masters (Matthew 6:24). But, you know, Jesus said – that ain’t happenin’.
“No one can….
You cannot.”
So now what?
Whatever your trip is Whatever your thing is (well, let’s get out of the 7o’s) Whatever you value so much that Jesus and His teachings are stashed to the side — THAT is what Jesus called: “serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24). Can’t be done.
24 No one can….
You cannot
The Law
In no uncertain terms the Law shows us, what is not pleasing to God. This is shown to us (1) as given in the Old Testament (Exodus 20), and (2) as is explained in the New Testament (Galatians 3:24).
From the start God has wanted us to know what is vile to Jesus… what is good and what is not. He wants us to choose the good: Him. There will be no excuse possible on Judgement Day. He has shown us.
The Judaic Law showed us
what is not
pleasing to God
Changing God See: The faith of anything goes
Are you messin’ with God and changing His Holy Law? He made known to us what are His “just ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments” (Nehemiah 9:13).
Where are the Ten Commandments found? 1
God appeared in holiness
God is holy. He is so not within our grasp of understanding. God is just, true, and good. He’s gentle and humble in heart. So what He did within His “Plan of the Ages” was: He laid-out His standards. And said, “My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” KJV
Matthew 11:29-30 AMP
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light.”
Since Christ came to earth for us, died, and resurrected for us, we can be legally saved from His legal “God Damn”. But we still have His Law to show us what is what.
Moses “received living words to pass on to you“. We are not saved (or not) by keeping The Law (or not), but by them we know if we are following Him or not. 2
Most all the earth can’t even get past the very first commandment, much less the other nine.
Commandment #1:
“You shall have no other gods before[a besides] me.”
Highly popular folk were listening to Jesus teach. They sneered and ridiculed Him for His beliefs. Does that sound kind of like the world culture of today (2023)? 3
How did Jesus respond?
15 So He said to them, “You are the ones who declare yourselves just and upright in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts [your thoughts, your desires, your secrets]; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God. – Luke 16:15
Dispelling doubts …as to what is okay with Him
The Law which God gave for us in the Old Testament was given to take away any doubts as to what is okay with Him, and what is not okay. And then He died on the cross — to free us from condemnation for not having kept those laws. 4
He brought with Him a New Covenant. The remedy He gave us: repent and follow me, believing in Me, conforming to My example” (Luke 9:23). If we do not turn from our sins, then we stay under condemnation. Pure and simple. By not conforming to Him, we evidence to ourselves and Him that we did not “turn”.
Our creed, our doctrine about Jesus, must be a “sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel” (1 Timothy 1:6-11). You can’t edit/insert/change/take out anything. It’s His gospel to keep as is.
“…the law is made …for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel”
– 1 Timothy 1:6-11

If we love the world, and call our self “Christian”, then we are trying to serve “two masters” (Matthew 6:24). And you know what Jesus said about that:
“…where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.”
– Matthew 6:21
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts].
23 But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!
– Matthew 6:22-23
The “world” is an enemy of our soul. Why would anyone think that loving the world is okay with Jesus? Is your light actually darkness? (Luke 11:33-36)

But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 [misled] by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared as with a branding iron [leaving them incapable of ethical functioning]” – 1 Timothy 4:1-2
22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of [a]angels, 23 to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.

- The 2023 Super Bowl Half Time Show was Exhibit A of the NFL stand against righteousness. The entire show reeked of sneering and ridiculing Jesus.

- The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. Luke 16:14-31 shows how important it is that we follow “what God says”. You do not just waltz into His Kingdom. It’s His Kingdom, His Way, His standards.
