The physician, Luke, records Jesus’ Parable of the Fig Tree, where Jesus says,
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees; 30 as soon as they put out leaves, you see it and know for yourselves that summer is near. 31 So you too, when you see these things [referring to verses 25-28] happening, know [without any doubt] that the kingdom of God is near….” – Luke 21:29-33 (partial quote)
The biggest prophecy of our day
This prophecy, I think, is the biggest prophecy of our day. The “fig tree”, which is Israel, has “put out leaves” — and it became an independent nation once again, just as predicted by Jesus.
…note the end of verse 24 (Luke 21:20-24): “until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” When the time was right, then God brought about the end of “the times of the Gentiles”…right on time — and the Jews reclaimed their homeland, in 1948.
The huge countdown
The countdown for “the end” REALLY began in earnest in 1948, when this prophecy was fulfilled. Jesus Himself points to this event and says a huge countdown would then begin with the return of Israel as a nation:
32 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this generation [those living at that definite period of time preceding the second coming] will not pass away until [a]everything takes place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” – Luke 21:32-33. Also: Matthew 24:32-36
Jesus assures us, and “most solemnly” states this. That sounds like a sure thing to me!
A generation is 70-80 years (depending on what source you read). So that seems to point to the years before 2028 (1948 + 80 years = 2028). I take that to mean: “Everything takes place” before 2028.
“…keep alert at all times [be attentive and ready], praying that you may have the strength and ability [to be found worthy and] to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man [at His coming].”” – Luke 21:36
All the predicted events just prior to “The end”, as Jesus called it (Matthew 24:14), will apparently happen before 2028. The predicted events are “all these things that are going to take place“ (before 2028): 2
The Great Apostasy
The Revealing of the the man of lawlessness
The Great Tribulation (The coming reign of lawlessness)
The intervention of God Almighty with wrath at the end of The Great Tribulation
The Second Coming of Christ in glory and power
“…keep alert at all times
[be attentive and ready],
praying that you may have the strength
[to be found worthy and]
to escape all these things
that are going to take place,
and to stand
in the presence of
the Son of Man [at His coming].””
– Luke 21:36
Those encouraging words, “escape all these things” is given to those who are faithfully following Him:
10 Because you have kept the word of My endurance [My command to persevere], I will keep you [safe] from the hour of trial, that hour which is about to come on the whole [inhabited] world, to test those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming quickly. Hold tight what you have, so that no one will take your crown [by leading you to renounce the faith]. – Revelation 3:10-11 Amplified Bible
Escaping the times of God’s wrath 3 (the wrath which comes upon the entire earth during The Tribulation years) is a promise Jesus makes. It is not wishful thinking. It is not some invented escape hatch to encourage ourselves about a fearful time. That is God’s plan.
God’s Promise to Us Today
God promised “I will protect you from the time of testing” (Revelation 3:10-11). THAT is a most encouraging word of God to us. Believe Him and fear not. – Source: Will you be “accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass?”
“For I am the LORD your God,
who upholds your right hand,
Who says to you,
“Do not fear,
I will help you.”
– Isaiah 41:13
Jesus presents believers with a great hope for the predicted End Times. We will escape the pouring-out of God’s wrath, Jesus said. He will rescue us so that we escape that wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10; Luke 21:36; Revelation 3:10-11). – Source: Jesus Promises an End Time Rapture

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 World English Bible
9 For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead: Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.
Luke 21:36 World English Bible
36 Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Revelation 3:10-11 World English Bible
10 Because you kept my command to endure, I also will keep you from the hour of testing which is to come on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 11 I am coming quickly! Hold firmly that which you have, so that no one takes your crown.
Our mission now is to “wait for his Son from heaven”, “be watchful all the time”, “Hold firmly that which you have”.
“…the end of all things
be of sound mind,
sober in prayer.
– 1 Peter 4:7

- God is in control of events. For example: I am in control of my soft boiled eggs in the mornings (that’s about all I can control these days!): I put the timer on 4.5 minutes of boiling, and take the eggs out exactly when the dinger goes off (if I hear the dinger ding!), so that my eggs are not too gooey, not too hard, but, just right, as I determine them to be.
The chronology of history
God is also a timer of events (but He leaves the eggs to us!). He needs no timer, and is not hard-of-hearing. He has been, and will later, and is now… planning and timing earth’s events (better than quantum computers can, and much better than my dinger!), so that they occur at just the precise moment in time that He Himself has decided to place them in the chronology of history.
Believe it. He prepares things to boil for …months and years and decades and centuries. He puts to boil any prepared future event as He deems it fit to be, and then takes the planned event out of the boiling pot, into reality – just at His predetermined, precise, hour of the correct day in earth time.
I am not surprised that our Awesome Creator of all that is, continues to be involved with one of His planets and the peoples He watches over. He is that big a God. – Source: What will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?.
- There are anomalies (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anomaly) with people in a certain “generation”, of course. Some old codger may live to 115! Way past his “generation”. So that could skew the 2028 figure a bit. But things are heating up and the end seems to be close (today I write on 6/30/2021.) Six and a half years is not very far off. And Jesus did say “this generation….”.
