…a story about getting to Heaven
Being a virgin doesn’t seem to be trending nowadays. But maybe it would be worth it?
Five Lucky Virgins
There were five lucky virgins back in the day, in Jesus parable (Matthew 25:1-13). Or were they just plain doing what was asked of them? 1
Five Foolish Virgins
There were 10 virgins on their way to the feast of the bridegroom. Only thing is, five of them ran out of oil for their lamps, hurried back to the shop to buy more… but when they finally got back — the only door to the party was shut tight. They lost out. Got locked out.
Losing it all — for what? So sad. So tragic. So wasted. Senseless. Like a dumb-ass lamb, those 5 were about this dumb-like: 2
“…doesn’t have the sense God promised a goat.”
“…doesn’t have enough sense to come in out of the rain.”
“…dumb as a fence post.”
“…not all there.”
“…a few bricks shy of a load.”
“…not playing with a full deck.”
“…as dumb as dirt.”
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went to [a]meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish [thoughtless, silly, and careless], and five were wise [far-sighted, practical, and sensible]. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil along with their lamps. – Matthew 25:1-13
This is a story for us today. (See: 2 Timothy 3:16.) It’s an illustration about being ready for the Kingdom of Heaven. Are you ready to meet your maker? Ready to meet the bridegroom?
In essence all born again believers in Jesus are…still virgins, still lucky, accepted by the bridegroom, not shut out, prepared, have oil, and live prepared and ready.
I certainly don’t want to be the foolish one: “[thoughtless, silly, and careless]”. I’m in it to win it. I aim to win. I live to be one of the wise: “[far-sighted, practical, and sensible]”
Is He coming back… for you? Or, as the parable of Jesus teaches us, will He reject you like the bridegroom rejects the five virgins who ran out of oil (Matthew 25:1-13)? Scary thought.

Jeremiah 33:11
The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the Lord of hosts: for the Lord is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord.
And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
Matthew 25:1-13. Main text of this article:
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went to [a]meet the bridegroom.
2 Five of them were foolish [thoughtless, silly, and careless], and five were wise [far-sighted, practical, and sensible]. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil along with their lamps.
5 Now while the bridegroom was delayed, they all began to nod off, and they fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! The bridegroom [is coming]! Go out to meet him.’
7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order [trimmed the wicks and added oil and lit them].
8 But the foolish virgins said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise replied, ‘No, otherwise there will not be enough for us and for you, too; go instead to the dealers and buy oil for yourselves.’
10 But while they were going away to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut and locked.
11 Later the others also came, and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open [the door] for us.’ 12 But He replied,
‘I assure you and
most solemnly
say to you,
I do not know you
[we have
no relationship].’
13 Therefore,
be on the alert
[be prepared
and ready],
for you
do not know
the day
nor the hour
[when
the Son of Man
will come].

- Amplified Bible version of Luke 9:23 – 23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple],
he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests],
and take up his cross daily [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come]
and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me]. - Each of the foolish virgins was like what Solomon described as a “fool”: “a closed-minded, self-confident fool“. See:
