←PIC: Three false teachers at Bethel in Redding CA.
A very interesting read: The Bethel Johnsons’ unbiblical teachings
Paul did it. He named names. It is totally biblical to name names and call-out false teachers, phoney baloney prophets, and false movements (like the NAR). It is no small thing – being phoney for God.
Paul introduces himself to Titus, saying that he (Paul) was chosen of Jesus to “lead and encourage” people to “recognize and pursue“… truth:
Paul, a bond-servant of God and an apostle (special messenger, personally chosen representative) of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God’s chosen ones and [to lead and encourage them to recognize and pursue] the knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness – Titus 1:1
“the trustworthy word as taught“
We are encouraged to know well the doctrines of the Bible, so that we ourselves are capable of recognizing when teachers go astray from them. We are warned that teachers will go beyond what Scripture so clearly states, (giving us “Beyond the Burger” varieties – not true beef). 1
We are to hold firmly to “the trustworthy word as taught“. Not add to it. Not take away from it. Not conjure up “supposed” new doctrines, nor new understandings. Stick to the Bible truths, and “avoid” what is “contrary to” what Paul and Matthew and Mark and Luke and John… gave us.
Paul named names. How is one to “avoid them”, if you do not know their name, or their church, or their movement?
The Apostle Paul warns,
“Now I beseech you, brethren,
mark them which cause divisions
and offences
contrary to the doctrine
which ye have learned;
and avoid them.”
– Romans 16:17
He “ must hold firm
to the trustworthy word as taught,
so that he may be able to
give instruction in sound doctrine
and also to rebuke those who contradict it“
– Titus 1:9
Quote from Calling out false teachers:
“…why are we generally so reticent about confronting wrong?
Paul called it out.
We should stand up for the good of others,
resist oppression by authorities,
and speak out against
what is not actually in the Bible.
Don’t be the dumb-ass sheep,
don’t blindly follow some attractive,
exciting politician, political party,
friend, or teacher
who teaches things that are not clearly supported in the Bible.”
