“You can’t always get what you want” – sang the rock star Mick Jagger. 1
Salvation is assumed…Did you get what you want?
The same is true of the one-off offer of Jesus to receive you into His Holy Home Heaven. You can’t always get what you want (the salvation Jesus offers…) nor “…what you need” because your heart is off-kilter. See salvation references.
Salvation is assumed in the minds of so many in churches today. But the stats show most are not saved yet. And I fear the majority of churches have the Bible message of “what saves you” all twisted up anyways nowadays – to the point that what they say isn’t even close to what Jesus requires for it. So tragic.

pat-on-the-back complacency
I grew up with the “once saved always saved” belief. I still believe it’s correct. Scripture teaches it. 2
But that belief has lolled many into a false complacency. They think they were saved back in the day – but the truth is they were not and still are not.
Contrary to the assumption, the Bible does not assume anyone’s salvation. It actually questions it.
Examine yourselves
The odds are so strongly against that assumption — that Paul warns us to “examine yourselves….” Paul was aware of this assumption. He shared his concern: that you may not actually be “in the faith” and living in it.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Test and evaluate yourselves to see whether you are in the faith and living your lives as [committed] believers. Examine yourselves [not me]! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves [by an ongoing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test and are rejected as counterfeit?
“…see whether you are
in the faith
and
living your lives
as [committed] believers.”
Did you have a “cracked heart” the day you made your confession of faith? Did your confession miss the mark? Did you fail to yeild 100% to Jesus? Did you truly give it up to Jesus? Are you now caught up with practices that God is against?
The odds are: God rejected your confession. Think about it.
