…who we are if we are a child of God
Revelation 12 describes who we are if we are a child of God:
17 So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went off to wage war on the rest of her children (seed), those who keep and obey the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus [holding firmly to it and bearing witness to Him].
Who we are
We see here that we, “the rest of her children” are “those who keep and obey the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus [holding firmly to it and bearing witness to Him].”
Our life imitates His
Real Christians “keep and obey…” We have a creed. We follow the example of Jesus. Our life imitates His – not in the sense of wearing robes and sandals, but in the sense of being like Jesus.
“…we have a mission on earth: “abide in God“. Jesus told us:
-
- “Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you.” (v4)
- “Vitally united and My message lives in your heart” (v7)
- “Bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples.” (v8)
- “Keep My commandments and obey My teaching.” (v10)

Jesus loved us to the extreme of coming down to earth to die for us. I’ve got to ask myself: Am I known by my love? Am I extreme – as Jesus was on earth?
Satan deceives and seduces
Satan, “the Accuser” of the saints, continually wages war against us, Jesus’ followers, as seen most notably in Job 1-2 and in Zechariah 3 (BibleGateway footnote [e] for Revelation 12:10). In fact, Satan “continually deceives and seduces the entire inhabited world” (Revelation 12:verse 9), not just believers.
See Revelation 12:verse 10. “he who accuses them and keeps bringing charges [of sinful behavior] against them before our God day and night.“).
Because of this enemy, the disciple Peter wrote a warning:
Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8
“At all times” – we must fight the good fight, alert to his deceptions and alluring.
In our good fighting… we sometimes will fail and fall. But we persevere.
We confess and repent, and get on with it. How’s it going with you?
