“On God my salvation and my glory rest; He is my rock of [unyielding] strength, my refuge is in God.” – Psalm 62:7 Amplified Bible (AMP)
At your wit’s end these days, with all that life is throwing at you now? Are you at the end of your wit?
Well, that’s not hard to do. It’s a quick place to land. I know, my wit’s not long. And I reach my wit’s end quite quickly. How ’bout you?
Usually, quicker than a nitwit, I turn to the Lord, and He hears me. I ask Him to deliver me from all my fears. I’m not a fearful type, but I fear: pain, loss, loneliness, a painful death…. How ’bout you? Do you admit to the Lord what you fear? Do you ask Him to deliver you?
Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord
[on the authority of His word],
and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
When I’m strong, I’m certainly not relying on my wit. Where does my strength come from? My strength comes from the Lord.
Isaiah 40:29
He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power.
Romans 16:25-27
[He]…is able to establish and strengthen you [in the faith]
Romans 12:12
constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength]
His Spirit has been inside me ever since I accepted Him as my Savior and Lord. How ’bout you? And He keeps me stable. Like a rock – I cannot be moved, because He is my Rock. (Luke 6:48; Romans 9:33; 1 Corinthians 10:4; Psalm 18:2)
Psalm 18:2
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold.
I know that God is not my magic genie (God may choose to not grant me all I ask for), but He is my Father in Heaven, and He cares for me. He knows what I need and what’s best for me. I know that. And that gives me confidence. Why fret? (Luke 12:15-34)
Matthew 7:11
If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him.
I know that God is my strength. He holds me up. I give the Lord my troubles because: He’s asked me to, and that act of giving it to Him releases me from worry. I fret less. I know He knows and He will manage things.
When I’m at my wit’s end, I might say what I regret, and I might think unacceptable things. So I pray often:
Psalm 19:14
Let the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, O Lord,
my [firm, immovable] rock and my Redeemer.
I cast my cares on the Lord my Rock, my Redeemer, the Spirit of God inside me.
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord [release it]
and He will sustain and uphold you;
He will never allow the righteous
to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).
I find a sweet spot for my soul – when I look to Him in prayer.
Psalm 16:1
Keep and protect me, O God, for in You I have placed my trust and found refuge.
Putting my trust in God, my soul is at peace, like sitting by a cool rippling brook, a mountain stream running gently through the peaceful meadow to the lake. He gives me peace.
Have you become quite the nitwit? At your wit’s end because life is piling on you? You don’t have to be a nitwit just because you’re at your wit’s end. A nitwit is a nincompoop, quite a ninny. A fool, incompetent, ridiculous. Don’t go there. Go to God in prayer and let Him restore your soul.
When I’m at my wit’s end…
That’s the time I feel like needing God the most.
That’s the time I talk to my Father in Heaven.
That’s the time I get my confidence back, in Him.
That’s the time I “cast all” my worries on Him.
Psalm 107:27-28 Amplified Bible (AMP)
27 They staggered and trembled like a drunken man,
And were at their wits’ end [all their wisdom was useless].
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He brought them out of their distresses.
