The Gospel of Christ is unchanging. Christ and only Christ saves sinners forever. That will never change.
And there is salvation in no one else;
for there is no other name under heaven
that has been given among people
by which we must be saved
[for God has provided the world
no alternative for salvation].”
– Acts 4:12
There was a time, however, when nobody knew the Gospel of Christ. It had not yet been revealed to us. It was a mystery all throughout the Old Testament eras. The Judaic sacrificial system looked forward to the coming of the Messiah. But nobody knew just how that would play-out with God’s plan of the ages.
They had no clue God Himself would become a baby man! They did not know that God Himself would die on a cross to provide salvation through His Holy System of Justice. It was a total mystery.
Abraham knew only what God had promised Him. And he put his faith in God. By faith Abraham pleased God – and was saved. The Judaic sacrificial system that later followed Abraham — was also based on faith. The Jews put their faith in the saving power of God – and were thus saved.
The death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth
The mystery of salvation was finally revealed through the God-man Jesus Christ during His 33 years on earth. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Judaic sacrificial system, making of Himself the ultimate “once for all” sacrifice for all sin (Hebrews 9:verses 23-28).
It was the death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the baby born in a manger, of Mary, “fathered” by God the Holy Spirit – that was the culminating act of God to bring salvation to all who would believe and follow Him. Read Hebrews 9 and 1 Peter 1.
…He commands all people everywhere
to repent
[that is, to change their old way of thinking,
to regret their past sins, and
to seek God’s purpose for their lives],
31 because He has set a day
when He will judge the inhabited world
in righteousness
by a Man whom He has appointed
and destined for that task, and
He has provided credible proof
to everyone
by raising Him from the dead.”
– Acts 17:30-31 AMP version
That was God’s plan all along. That plan never changed even one iota. It was always going to be the Son of God who would take away the sin of the world.
God unveils His truths little by little, at the proper time. Our understanding grows — but His Truth never changes. There will be no new prophecies to change God’s Word of the ages.
The culminating act of God
Without the resurrection of Christ — all mankind would be lost forever, all of us under His condemnation forever because of our unworthiness. But Jesus arose victorious from the grave, conquering sin and death. And thus we are able to be saved.
Therefore there is
now no condemnation
[no guilty verdict, no punishment]
for those who are in Christ Jesus
[who believe in Him
as personal Lord and Savior].
– Romans 8:1
Our understanding of Scripture
Our understanding of God’s forgiveness made a huge leap forward by the revealing of the mystery of salvation through the sacrifice (death on a cross), and the resurrection of the Christ. Our knowledge of the plan of God for the ages is ever increasing.
In the Old Testament eras, God spoke to those He chose to reveal Himself to, and the act of faith of sacrificing animals for sin was pleasing to God. But that was then.
That changed with the resurrection of Jesus. His salvation back then was based on a future death by the perfect Lamb of God (John 1:29). And that is still how we are saved.
That Truth never changed. But now we know that mystery unveiled. Now the truth of His sacrifice is known.
The truths of God never change, for our God is unchanging, ever the Rock. But He continues to unfold more understanding of His will for us – as He chooses.
Just as the mystery of salvation was finally revealed, God is revealing, little by little, the mysteries of His prophetic words spoken by His prophets of old. Our understanding of “prophecy” – is ever increasing.
Like time-release capsules
You’ve got to ask yourself, Why are we understanding so many prophecies nowadays? Well, it appears that we are entering that specific period in God’s Plan of the Ages where He is starting to actuate His planned events. God is letting us know, little by little (and faster and faster now!) that some of the things happening around us in our day – are prophecies fulfilled and being fulfilled right before our eyes!
God “set-up” His timetable of events with specific “prophetic words” recorded. Those prophecies are like time-release capsules. He releases each particle “just-in-time”. When it’s time… the prophecy pops into play. Prophecy is becoming reality.
We need to study Scripture in order to know the prophecies well. Then we will see the prophecies in action as God releases them to happen.
“those who are [spiritually] wise
will understand.”
– Verses 9&10 of Daniel 12:8-13
Take for example – the rebirth of Israel as a nation. Jesus foretold this happening. Verses 32-36 of Matthew 24:
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its young shoots become tender and it puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near;
33 so you, too, when you see all [f]these things [taking place], know for certain that He is near, right [g]at the door. 34 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this generation [the people living when these signs and events begin] will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth [as now known] will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
36 “But of that [exact] day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son [in His humanity], but the Father alone.
– Verses 32-36 of Matthew 24
As with most prophecies, He did not just come right out with it. We must be discerning. Jesus did not say outright:
“The fig tree is Israel, and when you see it come back to life as a nation again, when it begins to bud again — then you will know that my prophetic words have been put into play. You will then know that “the end” is nearing. In fact, “this generation”, the folks alive when Israel is reborn (verse 34) – that generation will not die off until all “the end” events have taken place.”
The 1948 Ticking Clock
But that is basically what the prophecy by Jesus was predicting. The rebirth of Israel in 1948 really, actually, started a ticking clock. Yes it did! We of course will not be able to “know the time or day” of His Return, but the event of ’48 started the clock.
The rebirth of Israel in 1948 started a ticking clock.
This period of time is not like the years of waiting. People jumped the gun, so to speak, predicting times and acting like they knew what even Christ did not know! (Like, “Duh! You can’t know if Jesus Himself said He did not know! Who do YOU think you are!?) As my nephew said, “At every age of the church there have been groups who thought they could clearly see prediction of the return of Christ and at every age they were wrong.”
But that was then, and this is now. Previous “ages of the Church” did not have this prophecy fulfilled (Matthew 24:32-36). We do.
We now have a fulfilled prophecy in the rebirth of Israel
It happened, folks! We now have a fulfilled prophecy in the rebirth of Israel predicted by Jesus (Matthew 24:32-36). We must restrain our speculations about exactly when, but now we do know His return (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Mark 13) is connected to 1948 — and the clock is ticking.
God is releasing prophecies of old. They are popping fast! Very exciting. We must study the remaining prophecies so we recognize them when they happen.
