There is no sittin’ on the fence when you know the Bible. Paul told Timothy what the Bible is for. It is hugely profitable.
With the Bible, we know what God is thinking – and we know what He wants from us. This is what Bible knowledge does for us and in us:
“6 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; 17 so that the [a I.e. all believers whether man, woman, or child.]man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
– 2 Timothy 3:16 (See context: 2 Timothy 3:15-17)
Here is the one verse broken down into bite size nuggets for us.
__________
“All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration]”. What it does, what we can follow, what we can be:
Scripture for instruction
Scripture for correction,
Scripture for conviction
Scripture for restoration
correction of error
restoration to obedience
training in righteousness
live in conformity
conformity publicly
conformity privately
behaving honorably
gain personal integrity
gain moral courage
be Scripturally complete
be proficient Scripturally,
be outfitted Scripturally
be equipped Scripturally
be thoroughly equipped
equipped for every good work
Know the Bible – Know the Truth
Know the Truth – Know God
If we know Scripture, then we will less likely rely on our own smarts. As the Proverb says:
5 Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart
And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6 [a] In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
– Proverbs 3:5-6
In all that we do – the Bible is telling us: “know and acknowledge and recognize Him“. Know Christ, acknowledge Christ, and recognize Christ. I like how Elizabeth Elliot knows the Bible:
FOR MORE:
If we know our Bible, we will know Christ, acknowledge Christ, and recognize Christ (Proverbs 3:5-6). We will know what saves us and what does not. We will be more and more like Christ. We will be on the straight and narrow path that leads to Heaven. That’s a great thing.

Luke 1:17
“It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous [which is to seek and submit to the will of God]—in order to make ready a people [perfectly] prepared [spiritually and morally] for the Lord.”
