Clouds without water

Farmers know what it means, “clouds without water”. Your crops really, really need water – and off in the distance you see large dark clouds. They look so nice. Water at last! But they arrive, and …pass right on by, with nary a drop. You’re left dry, not refreshed. THAT is “clouds without water”.

Like promising “friends”, who seem to be, but are not truly friends, as they arrive with nothing to give. No water. (“Friends must show themselves friendly.” “…being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing…” Hebrews 13:2. Also: Proverbs 18:24.)

Scripture describes folk without Christ as “lost” (Matthew 18:11). They are “clouds without water”, empty shells – nothing to them.

Desperately lost without Christ
Reading the tiny book of Jude we see how desperately lost people are without Christ. It is no small matter, rejecting the soul-cleansing power of salvation in Christ. The entire Gospel is shared in this tiny book.

You think you are just fine, hunky-dory, ready for eternity? Have you considered how God sees you?

Descriptive terms
Read: Jude 1:7-13. Interesting, the descriptive terms used by Jude to visualize folk who have rejected Christ. These are just plain, common folk… who reject Christ:

craggy rocks
hidden rocky reefs

shepherds who without fear feed themselves (not caring about the sheep in their flock)

clouds without water

carried along by winds

autumn trees without fruit

twice dead, plucked up by the roots

speak evil of whatever things they don’t know

they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason

they went in the way of Cain

ran riotously in the error of Balaam for hire

wild waves of the sea,

foaming out their own shame;

wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.

…and the list in Scripture goes on and on.

An even playing field
Without Christ we are one sorry bunch. We are vile to Jesus – without His forgiveness. But at least it’s an even playing field, being lost without Christ. No other matters weigh-in… except “me, myself, and I”, “you, yourself, and you alone”. We need Jesus.

All sins are horribly vile to Jesus. After all, He is the holy holy holy God. How easily some forget the vileness of their own sinning life before God put their feet on solid ground! That’s why the warning in Scripture (in my words): “Be careful [tough guy] lest you fall….”

God is calling us to listen to Jesus’ message, or your sin will damn your soul to hell.

He loves us just as we are, sinful sinful sinful humans. However, God does ask us to repent of our sin. You most certainly don’t want to be a fake Christian, one of the many God Damned “Believers”, especially during these Apostate days of the End Times.

God takes care of sinners. I know. Jesus saved me.
