The Bible tells us Hell by God will have degrees of punishment, depending on how evil one was on earth. We are not told what kind of variables will exist, but it won’t all be equal there. The more evil one is, the more given-over to Satan … the more horrible Hell will be. But there, any degree is worse than bad.
Jesus said this in verse 47 of Luke 20:45-47: “These [men] will receive the greater [sentence of] condemnation.”
45 And with all the people listening, He said to His disciples, 46 “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes [displaying their prominence], and love respectful greetings in the [crowded] market places, and [g]chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets. 47 These [men] who confiscate and devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense [to appear devout] offer long prayers. These [men] will receive the greater [sentence of] condemnation.” – Luke 20:45-47
Some of the hellbent unforgiven will find Judgement day “more tolerable” than others. But, unfortuanately for all, it will still be eternal judgement by Holy God, horrendously, utterly horrid.
The Unrepenting Cities
An example of God’s variable punishment is found here, with what Jesus Himself said in Matthew 11:20–24: “Then Jesus began to criticize openly the cities in which he had done many of his miracles, because they did not repent” (verse 20 in the NET version. Read it here in this footnote). 1
In the Amplified version:
20 Then He began to denounce [the people in] the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent [and change their hearts and lives]. 21 “Woe (judgment is coming) to you, [a]Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon [cities of the Gentiles], they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes [their hearts would have been changed and they would have expressed sorrow for their sin and rebellion against God].
22 Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for [the pagan cities of] Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23 And you, Capernaum, are you to be exalted to heaven [for your apathy and unresponsiveness]? You will descend to Hades (the realm of the dead); for if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
– Matthew 11:20–24 Amplified
There is a place
Hell will be a place of no good whatsoever — for all hell dwellers. Count on it! It is not a place to aspire towards. Are you going to Hell?
Jesus message for us is: “You must be born again“. Repent before you die. You’ll be glad you did. For how long? Eternally glad.
Jesus saved me – because I repented. I still repent of sins most every day.
God can forgive you, any day, anywhere on earth… till it’s too late.
that we have sinned
and confess our sins,
[true to His own nature and promises],
and will forgive our sins
from all unrighteousness
[our wrongdoing,
everything not in conformity
with His will and purpose].

- Matthew 11:20-24 in the NET version:
Then Jesus began to criticize openly the cities in which he had done many of his miracles, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you!
And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be thrown down to Hades! For if the miracles done among you had been done in Sodom, it would have continued to this day.
But I tell you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you!” – Matthew 11:20–24 NET.
