Sin is real because God Himself is real. He defines what is sin and what is not. The alluring siren songs are the enemies of our soul tempting us to shipwreck our life with sin (1 Timothy 1:18-20).
Lists of Sins
God has shown us
1) His will for us,
and
2) What He is against.
Here are some of the lists God gives us — so we can know what is what. Read ’em and weep in your rebellion against God. Or rejoice that you are following Him in obedience and truth.
But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, [a not loving good]haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of [b religion]godliness although they have denied its power; avoid such people as these.
6 For among them are those who [c creep into]slip into households and captivate [d idle]weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, 7 always learning and never able to come to the [e recognition]knowledge of the truth.
– Ephesians 4:31-32 Amplified Bible (AMP)
31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor [perpetual animosity, resentment, strife, fault-finding] and slander be put away from you, along with every kind of malice [all spitefulness, verbal abuse, malevolence].
32 Be kind and helpful to one another, tender-hearted [compassionate, understanding], forgiving one another [readily and freely], just as God in Christ also forgave you.
“…the law is made …for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers
—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11 that conforms to the gospel”
“Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father];
2 and walk continually in love [that is, value one another—practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.
3 But sexual immorality and all [moral] impurity [indecent, offensive behavior] or greed must not even be hinted at among you, as is proper among saints [for as believers our way of life, whether in public or in private, reflects the validity of our faith]”
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and [b]in the Spirit of our God.
But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
– 1 Corinthians 10:9-14 …verse 14
“run [keep far, far away] from [any sort of] idolatry
[and that includes
loving anything more than God, or
participating in anything that leads to sin and enslaves the soul]”
28 And just as they did not see fit [a]to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper,
29 people having been filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, and evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, [b]haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unfeeling, and unmerciful;
32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
For I am afraid that perhaps when I come I may find you to be not what I wish, and may be found by you to be not what you wish; that perhaps there will be strife, jealousy, angry tempers, selfishness, slanders, gossip, arrogance, disturbances;
Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.
At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also they become gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention.
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good
But as for you, proclaim the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. 2 Older men are to be [a]temperate, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, in [b]perseverance.
3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may [c]encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
6 Likewise urge the young men to be [d]sensible; 7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with [e]purity in doctrine, dignified, 8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
9 Urge [f]slaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be pleasing, not [g]argumentative, 10 not stealing, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral [h virtue]excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
– Jude 1:4
For certain people have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand [d]marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into indecent behavior and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
10 But these people disparage all the things that they do not understand; and all the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. 11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay [j]they have given themselves up to the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
12 These are the ones who are [k]hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, like shepherds caring only for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, [l]doubly dead, uprooted; 13 wild waves of the sea, churning up their own shameful deeds like dirty foam; wandering stars, for whom the [m]gloom of darkness has been reserved forever….
16 These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; [o]they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.
“In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, [a merely natural] worldly-minded, [b not having] devoid of the Spirit.
20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence.
– Deuteronomy 18:15-22. Verse 20.
verse 20 But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name, a word which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, [c]that prophet shall die.’ [Also see: “I am against you”: Deuteronomy 6:15; Deuteronomy 31:27; Matthew 22:29; Ezekiel 13:8; Ezekiel 13:9; Ezekiel 13:20; Ezekiel 14:9-11.]
Do you know “what is what” in God’s eyes? Or do you make weak arguments for keeping your sin? God knows your heart.
