*A personal confession, repentance and restoration
Was this ever you?
Or are you “refusing to admit acts of sin“?… 1 John 1:8-10. Are you honestly going to sit there and refuse to admit your sin?
__________
I have stumbled like a drunk does it (Isaiah 19:14 EXB).
“…like drunk people stumbling in their own vomit“
I’ve “returned to my vomit” like a dog (Proverbs 26:11 AMP).
I’ve repeated my foolish acts like a fool (Proverbs 26:11 EXB, 2 Peter 2:22 EXB).
I’ve been easy to fool, like a pigeon, stupid senseless in my sinful pursuits (Hosea 7:11 EXB).
I have been known to “wander in the wrong ways“ (Isaiah 19:14 EXB).
I’ve snapped like a dog, irritated, gone to rage. (Ephesians 4:26, Matthew 5:22, 2 Corinthians 12:20)
Like a pig I’ve cleaned-up my act… and then promptly rolled back into the mud again, and again (Proverbs 26:11 EXB).
__________
Yes, I have stumbled like a drunk, gone back to my vomit like a dog. I’ve acted the fool, been a senseless pigeon, and, like a pig – I’ve rolled right back into the mud. But I did not stay there long.
In Christ I am more Like Christ
Things are different now. I know I’m not loved by God more when I’m really really good. I’m not “more nor less loved” by more sinning or less sinning. My salvation is secure in Him.
So my aim is to be pleasing to the God I owe so much. I am in His debt, and will forever sing His praises.
“I’ve been changed it must be…” (old hymn lyric). I’m in joy seeing that I am more and more – better in Christ. I’m still learning, and little-by-little I am becoming more and more – like Christ.

__________
Yes I can – I can stand strong. I am enough in Christ… to please the Lord in all I do.
I do not want to be like drunk people, like a dog, like a pig….
With experience, one looks ahead and discerns what is right and what is wrong, what is desirable with Christ and what is not. Getting into the Bible – one begins to see what is the mind of Christ, and what is not.

Are you “pursuing spiritual perfection”? (Verse 15 of Philippians 3:13-15) Or: Are you deep in the miry clay, still, lost in your sinfulness?
Want to get out? Turn. Get yourself to Jesus through sincere and truthful prayer. Christians do not have to sin. We are not slaves to any sin (Romans 6).
You once turned – to it. That was your choice. And just so, it is a choice also to turn from it, from what has ensnared you – and turn to Jesus in repentance.
It’s a choice: be faithful once again, or stumble like a drunk, eat vomit like a dog, wallow like a pig.
I tend to think that most believers have a history of many a willful, stupid act. I think we all can say, “Been there. Done that” as sinful lives rolls by. But we got back up, right? We turned from our sin, and turned to Jesus.
Keep on keepin’ on! Stand strong! Be strong in the Lord.
11 Even so, consider yourselves to be dead to sin [and your relationship to it broken], but alive to God [in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions.
13 Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness.
But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] as those alive [raised] from the dead [to a new life], and your members [all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart] as instruments of righteousness [yielded] to God. 14 For sin will no longer be a master over you, since you are not under Law [as slaves], but under [unmerited] grace [as recipients of God’s favor and mercy].

“…forgetting what lies behind
and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
I press on
toward the goal
to win the [heavenly] prize…
All of us who are mature

should have this attitude.”

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature [pursuing spiritual perfection] should have this attitude. And if in any respect you have a different attitude, that too God will make clear to you.

I’m not what he says I am
Excerpt: Satan is the big accuser. Jesus Himself calls Satan a liar and deceiver.1
I refuse to accept Satan’s lying accusations against me. I refuse his false depiction of me. I am not what he says I am.
I am what God says I am. God says I am a brand new creature — in Christ. I am not the sum total of all my sins. Why? Because all my sins are gone gone gone gone. Because God Himself has declared me clean, cleansed by His judicial court. If (since) God has removed my sin “as far as the East is from the West…” then who but the Accuser would bring it up again, and attempt to lure me back to that old self? Do you?
Footnotes
- John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths.
