Teach the whole counsel of God
The Bible is a book of books… a whole lot of reading there for us. It all fits together like hand-in-glove, because God Himself put it together over the centuries. Quite an amazing feat. What a miracle in itself!
When reading Scripture, we of course want to understand what it says. So it is important that we hold to a disciplined manner of interpretation.
IF we deviate
This is God’s Word, not our little playing field where we are making it say what we want it to say.
If we deviate from what God had written for the record, then: we get it wrong, we fall into false doctrines, and soon, we’ve become apostate.
12 Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart [e]that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another every day, as long as it is still called “today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we keep the beginning of our [f]commitment firm until the end”
– Hebrews 3:12-14.
Those of us who are serious about staying faithful to God, “getting it right”, must stay faithful to what God has caused to be written-down for us.

The main thing
The main thing is always the main thing. A main purpose for the New Testament is – to convince us of the validity of Jesus as Savior, so that you may believe: “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”
30 So then, many other signs [a confirming miracles]
Jesus also performed
in the presence of the disciples,
which are not written in this book;
31 but these have been written
so that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ [b Messiah],
the Son of God;
and that by believing
you may have life in His name.
– John 20:30-31
“The first account I [a]composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, 2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had given orders [b]by the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3 To [c]these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of things regarding the kingdom of God. – Acts 1:1-3
Examples of deviating
I like the term “deviate”. But I hate doing it! It means to get off the true path, to err in direction.
If I am in the wilderness walking from point A to point B (your desired destination), and I leave that “A to B” path, and begin walking point A to point Z, then I am deviating. What a bummer! With God – it’s an eternal bummer.

There is a broad road that says Heaven but goes to Hell
Not to deviate
If we believe that “All Scripture is [a Lit God-breathed] inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16), then we will be deeply motivated to stay on the guide’s path.
Try these on… see if you interpret correctly.
* One verse commonly misinterpreted is Philippians 2:3-8
* Another commonly misread verse is Acts 10:38.
38 [a]You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, [b]and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. – Acts 10:38

Show me actual false teachings
We must not of a sudden be found to be contradicting what Jesus taught, practicing sin what God has condemned, and thus being… one of those who were not really of us.
Test yourselves
to see
if you are in the faith;
examine yourselves! Or
do you not recognize this about yourselves,
that Jesus Christ is in you
—unless indeed you fail the test?
– 2 Corinthians 13:5
