“Anyone who runs on ahead
and does not remain in the doctrine of Christ
[that is, one who is not content with what He taught],
does not have God” – 2 John 1:9
Running ahead of Jesus …2 John 1:9
Are you content with what Jesus taught? There are certain discontented ones among us who have run “on ahead” and gotten into strange teachings. God is not on their side. 1
They do not have God
These discontented ones practice differing doctrines from the teachings taught by Jesus and His disciples, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul. Are you one of them? …attending their church? Or have you remained “in the teaching”?
The Bible is one teaching – and that teaching is only “what God meant“. It’s not up to our personal interpretations and imagination. 2
Don’t change it! The consequences of messing with God’s Words are eternal. “I am against you”, God says. Really want to go there?
The Opposite Spectrum
God communicated His Message, not a bunch of watered-down-whatever teachings. False prophets are on an opposite spectrum from God. They follow their own strange teaching.
This spectrum is condemned by God. Those who are fooling around in that realm are literally damned by God Almighty for their rebellious audacity. Their practices and teachings are created by personal interpretations (misinterpretations) which change what God intended.
The meaning of 2 John 1:9 in the vernacular:
“You gotta get it right, or you don’t got Jesus!”
I’m reminded of the story of “the prince and the pauper” (Google it). If you don’t have the Prince, well then you have the Pauper! If you do not have the real Jesus, well then, you have a phony Prince.
Do you have the real Truth God has given us? Or do you have a fabricated phony-baloney doctrine?
“Why do you call Me,
‘Lord, Lord,’
and do not practice
what I tell you?
– Luke 6:46

Jesus says to us, “practice what I tell you.” The saving faith of Jesus is simple: stay with Jesus, or go on ahead and create your own faith (Philippians 3:17-20). If you create your own version of “faith”, then you are not following the version of Christ. The way of Christ is a narrow road (Matthew 7:13-14).
It is a serious matter. False teachers are “…enemies of the cross of Christ [rejecting and opposing His way of salvation] (verses 18-19).” They get damned in the end – not a fate I’d ever choose.
Be content with what is plainly there – or go play church outside of the faith with whatever. Are you the “anyone” of 2 John 1:9, one of the defiant ones (Jude 1:11) who “run headlong” into error?
2 John 1:9
Anyone who runs on ahead and does not remain in the doctrine of Christ [that is, one who is not content with what He taught], does not have God; but the one who continues to remain in the teaching [of Christ does have God], he has both the Father and the Son.
Jude 1:11
Woe to them! For they have gone the [defiant] way of Cain, and for profit they have run headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of [mutinous] Korah.
Do not add to nor distort
Following Jesus is not a matter of making-up our own way of interpreting Scripture (2 Peter 1:19-21). God did not say – “Here are some words. Go and make meanings of them.”
We must be careful to not add to nor distort His Message. We do not need new revelations. What we need is to pay close attention to what He already gave to us! The meanings of God are very clear in the Bible:
19 So we have the prophetic word made more certain. You do well to pay [close] attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and light breaks through the gloom and the [k]morning star arises in your hearts.
20 [l]But understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. – 2 Peter 1:19-21

52 Woe to you lawyers, because you have taken away the key to knowledge (scriptural truth). You yourselves did not enter, and you held back those who were entering [by your flawed interpretation of God’s word and your man-made tradition].” – Luke 11:52

Deviating from God’s meaning
Deviating from God’s meaning is to be damned all to Hell, because only His Truth is relevant when we are dealing with His salvation, His teachings. We do not want “man-made tradition“.
We find Truth only in the teaching from God, according to His Way — not yours. Adding a twist to His straight Gospel, is to take your message into the realm of twisted false teachings.
Here are some words.
Go and make meanings of them.
The message of God is very simple. He has His Way. Deviating from it takes us off His straight and narrow road. It is “either-or”: not both. It’s not His Way+ anything. There is no need to enhance God’s meaning. His Word does not need a reset.
We must adhere to what God intended… or else we find ourselves NOT of Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4 – all versions), but rather — of another gospel. All such estranged doctrines are outside God’s purview. Really want to go there? 3
What man makes up on his own, sure as Hell does not save us for eternity. It only guarantees permanence in Hell, because such falseness keeps us in our fallen state.
Man’s Grace
There is no “saving grace” if it’s man’s grace. I want the amazing grace of God!
Getting into a strange doctrine gets us into following a “Jesus” that does not save. With these false teachings, one is changing what God started. Why would anyone do that!? Those doctrines leave us being God damned in Hell.
Feel the finality of it all …to be damned
So, what about a real God damn? In contrast with a damning by a person: What’s a God damn like?
What will it be like to stand before Creator God on Judgement Day, and receive His wrath? That’s something to really think about. Can you feel the finality of it all in that moment?
A person can damn you, but, what’s that going to do? Not much. However, on That Day of Judgement, a God damn is:
forever bad, forever unforgiving, never changeable – permanent in the universe. A God damn declared by God Himself will make the human heart quiver like a gazelle caught in the lion’s jaws.

You do not have God
This passage of 2 John 1:9 boldly teaches that you do not have God if you make-up what you want God to say. 4
Have you examined your life closely – to prove that you truly match-up with Christ or not – your beliefs, your standards, your “causes”, your lifestyle, your habits, your voting record, who you cheer, who you condemn, who you make fun of and revile, who you support with time or monies or votes…?

Get out of Dodge! (Google it) And get over to real truth, with real saving grace. Don’t let your last words on earth be, “Well I’ll be damned.”

When it comes to God, who wants mere opinions? Excerpt: What Matters
When talking “God” and “Truth” – I really do not care what you think. You should not care what I think. What matters is “what God thinks”. What has God revealed to us down through the ages? Erroneous thinking proliferates with mere opinions.
Our aim is to teach the way of Christ – and to warn when someone is teaching another gospel which is different from what Jesus taught, different from what was written by the faithful early church in the New Testament (1 Peter 3:15; 1 Timothy 6:3-5; 1 Timothy 1:3-7).If your “salvation” is not from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John or Paul… then you are not saved, but rather — following a Jesus who was not God.
The Mystery of Salvation was revealed in the NT. Does it matter – what you believe? Well, as sure as Hell – yes, it really does matter. I give it my all to make sure I am following Jesus – not some aberrant fabrication of Him.
The Bible is the standard for Christian thought and practice. Not me. Not you.
