A blend of Scripture guides my thoughts as I’m
going for a walk in our neighborhood with my wife,
with our rural mountain beauty all around…
Surrounded by a world of hurt and virus,
and sin that never lets us go,
and those countless neighbors, lost,
and I hear their helpless bleating “baa baa baa”,
and still I keep my mask on tight,
now they can’t kill me,
and I go on ’round them,
step around their bleeding painfilled hearts,
and as his smile shouts
soundless pleas for help,
“Help me” he waves,
and his unmasked face
is wanting us to stop on over,
and I’m careful to
walk by him on the other side,
not close,
and wonder why I feel a twang of guilt
from my toughened, hard hard heart,
and leave behind a scared and lonely,
helpless sheep I hear and see,
and sometimes feel for,
as they struggle through their hopeless day,
and know they have no answer to their plight,
and they care not, seek not
for an answer,
as they wallow in despair,
and it’s all so senseless looking, worthless, waste
and yet there is one ray of light,
a hope for now, today, tomorrow,
and…I know the answer
is the God who made it all,
and the Bible is God’s word for us
to find His answers
and to put to rest
what ails and assails us.
I have found
my hope and confidence
in Him
for whatever comes my way,
and…each day blends on into others
with my sleepy eyes
that get so little rest,
and yet each day
my soul rejoices
in a Savior, — Jesus Christ,
and I place my faith,
my all
in Him,
as every moment of the day
my Father cares for me,
and on and on it goes,
this “journey [ I myself ] must travel,
with a deep consciousness of God….”
“Your life is a journey you must travel
with a deep consciousness of God.
It cost God plenty
to get you out of that dead-end,
empty-headed life you grew up in.
He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know.
He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb….”
– 1 Peter 1:18-21 The Message (MSG)
Luke 12:4-9
4 “I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have nothing more that they can do. 5 But I will point out to you whom you should fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority and power to hurl [you] into hell; yes, I say to you, [stand in great awe of God and] fear Him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? Yet not one of them has [ever] been forgotten in the presence of God. 7 Indeed the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are far more valuable than many sparrows.
8 “I say to you, whoever declares openly and confesses Me before men [speaking freely of Me as his Lord], the Son of Man also will declare openly and confess him [as one of His own] before the angels of God. 9 But he who denies Me before men will be denied in the presence of the angels of God.
2 Peter 1:2-11
“… 3 For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises [of inexpressible value]….”
