I’m sure that, in the past, you have waited.
* Remember waiting for Christmas morning? How exciting that was. Before Christmas I was so excited, full of anticipation. I so much wanted to open my Christmas gifts right now. But I had to wait for Christmas morning.
* Remember waiting for Friday night? I had a date, and I was waiting anxiously for Friday night. I had a date with Denise! I loved her so! Friday night was coming. But I had to wait for it.
* Remember waiting for dessert – that chocolate cake and ice cream? The meal was a blur as I had my eyes on that cake and ice cream. But… I had to wait. Dad said I had to eat everything on my plate – first.
Time is such a spoiler. I don’t want to wait for it. I want “it” now! The hands of time move so slowly ’round the clock. Why do I have to wait for it?! (I can hardly wait for His timeless, infinite continuum of Eternity!)
Back in time, around 33 AD, Jesus promised He would return to earth. Christians have been waiting for Jesus so long – almost 2,000 years! What?! We so much want Jesus to return today. He says: Wait for it.
Jesus has “delayed” His return, He said (2 Peter 3:9), in order to give more time for sinners to repent and find salvation (Romans 2:4). If you are still under condemnation from God (Mark 16:16) on the day that Jesus returns… then you will miss out big-time. So He waits.
God wants us all to be saved. God wants every one of us to repent and turn to Him – before death, before the Rapture. Is He waiting for you?
Those of us who have already been born again, born of God, changed forever, saved from His wrath: we are waiting “excitedly” for Him to return and take us to eternity! Oh what a day that will be! But we have to wait for it. True followers of Christ have been freed from a righteous “God Damn”, but we have to wait.
“wait
for His Son from [f]heaven,
whom He raised from the dead,
that is,
Jesus who rescues us
from the wrath to come.”
– 1 Thessalonians 1:10
10 Because you have kept the word of My endurance [My command to persevere], I will keep you [safe] from the hour of trial, that hour which is about to come on the whole [inhabited] world, to test those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming quickly. Hold tight what you have, so that no one will take your crown [by leading you to renounce the faith]. – Revelation 3:10-11
We have to wait (1) until death takes us out of here, or (2) until Jesus raptures us suddenly. Are you ready for either one of these to happen to you? Are you ready to meet Your Maker? Or are you going to lose it all?
Jesus who rescues us
from the wrath to come
There is a whole lot of wrath coming. And it is from God Himself. God is going to pour it on. God is going to crash the earth with His extreme wrath (“anger”). The Great Tribulation is going to be a horrible period of time (coming soon) during which God will pour out His wrath on the face of the earth. There will be no escaping His wrath – unless Jesus rescues you.
But here (1 Thessalonians 1:10) the Apostle Paul says Jesus will “rescue us from the wrath to come”. This is why many believe: true followers of Christ will not go through the Great Tribulation period. The Bible says Jesus will rescue us from that wrath.
God’s wrath will pour out — during the Great Tribulation. Everyone on the face of the earth will experience God’s wrath at the time. But, since we have the promise of 1 Thessalonians 1:10 — we know that we, as His followers, will not be on earth for that wrath. We will have been raptured by the time His wrath is poured out. See:
Escape all these things that are going to take place
“I will protect you from the time of testing” (Revelation 3:10-11).
How could His true followers go through the period of His wrath when Jesus is the One “who rescues us from the wrath to come”? Can’t happen.
This is a reference to The Rapture. Jesus would have to fail in His promise — if we go through the Great Tribulation and have His wrath crash down upon us, His followers! Won’t happen.
Jesus rescues us, not from trials and persecution, but from His wrath.
“…keep alert at all times [be attentive and ready], praying that you may have the strength and ability [to be found worthy and] to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man [at His coming].”” – Luke 21:36
Wait for it
We have to wait for it, but we are told that Jesus is coming soon to take us up to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). The Rapture is real, and it’s coming just around the corner. How are you living-out your faith these days?
Jesus presents believers with a great hope for the predicted End Times. We will escape the pouring-out of God’s wrath, Jesus said. He will rescue us so that we escape that wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10; Luke 21:36; Revelation 3:10-11).

“…the end of all things
is near.
Therefore
be of sound mind,
self-controlled, and
sober in prayer.
– 1 Peter 4:7
So don’t be anxious and afraid in these troubled days. He is with us.
13 I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
– Psalm 27:13-14 NIV

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.” – Habakkuk 2:3-4
