Being an “evangelical”
Not all Christians are “evangelical”. The term “evangelical”started as a way to describe Christians who spread the message of Jesus.
I prefer no such labels, but… they would call me evangelical, and I do resemble it! As an ambassador for Christ – I represent Him in this way (2 Corinthians 5:20):
* Evangelicals follow Jesus alone. Jesus Himself said “Follow Me”.
* Evangelicals reject beliefs that reject what Jesus taught.
* Evangelicals love others to the point of risking rejection and ridicule by sharing the Truth in love:
Jesus is the One Way to Heaven
Repent and be saved.
Key verses
For an evangelical Christian these passages explain what it’s all about:
“…there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
– Acts 4:12
Jesus said to him, “[a]I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
– John 14:6
Jesus answered him, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot [ever] see and experience the kingdom of God….”
– Verse 3 of John 3:3-16
15 …whoever believes will in Him have eternal life [after physical death, and will actually live forever].
16 “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.
– Verses 15-16 of John 3:3-16
Key evangelical theology
This is what an evangelical will always zoom in on and emphasize:
1. Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior saves sinners. Only accepting Jesus and His Gospel saves – nothing else.
2. Repentance from sin for forgiveness. Repentance is required for salvation. Turn from – Turn to. No repentance – no salvation.
3. Resultant works from a 100% yeildedness of heart. We follow Jesus by life practice and personal testimony. How a Christian lives life is based on being born again to a new life.
4. Sharing with others the goodness of God and His salvation.
- We share “the Gospel of Jesus Christ“, the very specific message of salvation spoken by Jesus to Paul.
“…that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the [k]power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’ – Acts 26:18 NASB
5. Biblical Freedom according to Scripture.
- Freedom from dominating churches, authoritative pastors and leaders
- Freedom from unbiblical church rules, regulations and expectations
- Freedom from being a slave to sin, from conforming to the world, from following two masters….
6. Berean vigilance for accurate biblical truth. See: a site search of “Berean”
7. Guarding the flock against what is false. We warn against wolves in sheep’s clothing, falseness, lies, delusions, sinful practices, false teachings, deception, wrong-headed thinking, and misinformation – all of which is rampant. Many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit [speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet]; instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world.”
– 1 John 4:1
The Evangelical Difference
Evangelicals differentiate between:
* What is biblical vs what is a “spirit of error“,
* What Jesus taught vs what erroneous fake Christians expouse
* True salvation that saves sinners vs watered down versions that do not save
“But you do not believe Me [so you do not trust and follow Me] because you are not My sheep“.– Verse 26 of John 10:23-30
* Genuine faith that produces good works vs faith without works. Faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26).
The Bible was given to be able to follow His Word. You will not be “one who will be blessed” – if you do not “continually observe it.” Jesus was saying in verse 28 of Luke 11:27-28, that:
the ones
who will be blessed
throughout eternity
– are “those who hear
the word of God
and continually observe it.”
* The real Jesus – verify Jesus – verify, verify, verify vs get deceived by false teachers. The difference between Evangelical Christians and others — often is everlasting. Jesus made it clear. He said, “Follow Me”. Those who err in this – do not follow. Those who do not truly “follow” – do not enter the Holy Kingdom of Heaven.
There are many “minor” biblical truths which most evangelicals agree upon. But the focus is always Jesus and His Gospel of salvation.
“those who hear
the word of God
and continually observe it.”
The Godman Jesus said “Follow Me”
True followers of Jesus are not namby-pamby with how they live. We live to emulate Jesus and what He taught. We may often fail, but we most certainly repent and get back to it. Jesus absolutely requires repentance from sin, the rejection of what is of our old nature, Satan, and the world.
God’s grace teaches us to reject sin
We absolutely do not align with ungodly movements and counter-Jesus creeds from the pit. Doing so gives evidence of a heart and mind that rejects Jesus.

I am so saddened by the willy-nilly application of Bible truths nowadays. People make it say whatever they want to – so it will thereby backup their own wishful thinking.
I thought the whole idea was “having God in your life”. How can God be pleased with random religiosity?
That will never work with God. The Bible is the standard for Christian thought, seeing as how we believe God inspired Godly men to write as He guided them. If you’ve got a thought, and it’s new or amplifying (adding to…) the already God-given Word… then it is not in the Bible, and it is not “God’s Word”.

“knowing who to avoid is an important warning…”
* If you are not a follower of Jesus – then, knowing who to avoid is an important warning.
* If you are a follower of Jesus – then, knowing who to avoid is an important warning. Or do you want to go down a dark snake hole?
There are so many ways to get lost in false teachings, erroneous thought – which leads us away from the Truth – and into apostasy. God Himself is the One that establishes what is “true” and what is “false”, not today’s false teachers. Perilous times are here. We need to be wise in a very unwise world during these End Times.
This list of false teachers, false teachings, and apostate groups is not a thorough list, but this article [Examples of False Doctrines] gives us a sense of what is out there in these end times – and how extremely important it is to be “Berean“, search the Scriptures, and stay faithful to what has been revealed in the Bible.
