He will accomplish it
Because He is God Almighty, God can do anything He decides to do. He owns it all, this God of the Ages. He has shared with us what He has planned, and He will accomplish it see multiple references. His Word is sure.
Matthew 5:18
For I assure you and most solemnly say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke [of the pen] will pass from the Law until all things [which it foreshadows] are accomplished.
Jeremiah 23:20
“The anger of the Lord will not turn back Until He has set in motion and accomplished the thoughts and intentions of His heart; In the last days you will clearly understand it.
Over the ages God has communicated His will to us through specially chosen prophets of old, and Jesus – the greatest prophet of all. Thus, through His inspiration we now have the Bible. It is His Word to us. 2 Timothy 3:16
Oftentimes God would communicate very specifically what He wanted. Specific, as in “very detailed”. And God expected His Word to be followed.
Take this example in 2 Kings 5, of “Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram (Syria)”. He was a powerful military commander, but he was a leper. So he went to the house of Elisha. Elisha, the prophet of God, gave Naaman specific instructions in order to be healed:
Verse 10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean.”
Naaman was to go…. Go to a specific river, the Jordan River and wash. Wash 7 times. Elisha wasn’t going to wave a wand and have Naaman healed from far away.
That enraged this most powerful commander of armies.
So he turned and went away in a rage. 13 Then his servants approached and said to him, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he has said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean?’”
So Naaman conceded and washed as told. And was healed.
Explicit Parameters
For us today, thinking of God’s very specific message of salvation: God has given us very explicit parameters for salvation. Did you follow them explicitly, or did you somehow take away bits, or add pieces?
Many refuse His message. Many add to it and take away bits and pieces. But, Scripture suggests we listen to Naaman’s servants:
“if the prophet had told you
to do some great thing,
would you not have done it?”
Another example of God being specific
Here, in Exodus 17:6, in order to get water in the desert: God told Moses to strike the rock. Moses did as God required. And water flowed as promised.
Exodus 17:5-6 5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at [a]Horeb; there you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may [have something to] drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Later, in Numbers 20:8-13, Moses was told to speak to the rock. But he got angry and did not just speak to the rock as commanded – he struck the rock in anger.
11 Then Moses raised his hand [in anger] and with his rod he struck the rock twice [instead of speaking to the rock as the Lord had commanded].
It was simple: speak to the rock. Very simple. Very specific. But Moses did not do what the Lord God had told him. Instead he hit the rock. He hit the rock two times.
There were consequences to that. God held him accountable. Because he did not follow the very specific Word of the Lord – Moses was not allowed to lead Israel into the promised land. He died before they entered.
12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed (trusted) Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, you therefore [b]shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
What Moses did not do?
“you have not believed (trusted) Me,
to treat Me as holy
in the sight of the sons of Israel”
It is the same with us and our Salvation in Christ. Scripture verses about Salvation are very simple, very explicit.
The Work of Salvation
God is the One who saves – or not. It won’t work to work-up our own way to get to Heaven. Jesus said “I am the Way”. You’re not.
Taking your hate, your ways, your views to Heaven? Don’t think so.
If we do our own thing instead of God’s… then we are not saved. God will hold us accountable. At that moment of death, I think there will be a startling realization for way too many:
Between earth and the afterlife
I kind of imagine that, at death, the dead obstinate stiff-necked sinner will experience a sudden flash of realization of his final destination. In the ether-like atmosphere between earth and the afterlife, he/she will gasp out, “Oh damn!”

What else could one say in that flash of terror? What a horror…that ultra extreme unresolvable horror upon arrival for God’s condemnation. Don’t deceive yourself all to Hell.
The Jericho Example in Joshua 6
God was very explicit about how to conquer the walled city of Jericho. How many times were they to march around it? Not 10. Not 3. For one day? Read Joshua 6.
God commanded the Israelites to gather and march around Jericho… once a day, every day, for 6 days. Then on the seventh day, “on that day they marched around the city [a]seven times. And all kinds of explicitly stated instructions were to be followed. They did. And then, the city fell.
In the Garden of Eden
The Tree of Life was special Genesis 2:9. God said: Do not eat of this one tree. Genesis 2:15-17 All the others: fine. But do not eat of the fruit of The Tree of Life. Well, we all know the rest of that story. They both ate the forbidden fruit. Consequence? A decree of condemnation was sent-out from God.
The message was simple, very specific, and not confusing at all.
Specificities for Salvation…the how, why, what
God is asking us to repent. And He tells us the how, and the why, and the what of it. Salvation for Eternity comes to those who overcome the world – “through believing that Jesus is the Son of God”. Believe in the name of Jesus.
If God Himself is explicit with His offer of salvation, shouldn’t we also be explicit in our response? I think so.
When God is explicit, it behooves us to be explicit also. His explicit parameters for salvation absolutely require our explicit complete adherence… in order to get saved.
Salvation is a freely offered privilege. Do you know what the offer involves? Have you accepted His offer?
Know that God cares
God is not distant. He is not some ephemeral force somewhere out there amongst the stars. He is near. He chooses to reside inside us who follow Him. THAT is quite near!
God has been very explicit about His offer of forgiveness. The one-off offer of Jesus is not a meandering, wishy-washy, “oh hum…” thing.
Along with His desire to save all mankind, we were given the truth of His Holiness and Justice. He will not save those who will not follow. The Way to Salvation always involves obedience to Jesus.
So you think you were saved back in the day when you made a “confession of faith”? You repented and asked Him to be your Savior? Were you following His very specific salvation parameters? Or just giving it “a wing and a prayer” – hoping it would work?
No need to wonder what God expects of us in order to be eternally saved. He has told us. He had it written down even. What do you know about it? How did that local church explain it to you?
Salvation is not your thing
When God is explicit, we must be explicit. We must respond to His offer with explicit agreement. It is beyond huge, this thing, this Salvation in Christ. We are being freed forever from God’s decree of condemnation against us. Hallelujah!
