Like a good doctor, Jesus prescribes exactly what is necessary for what’s ailing you. His prescription is the right medicine to get well.
* A scratch on your arm does not need a splint. The scratch is cleaned, an anteseptic is applied, and a bandage then covers it.
* Chemotherapy is not prescribed for a runny nose.
* What is needed perhaps for a common headache is to take two aspirin, or a Tylanol or Motrin… not shock therapy.
Needing a physician
Jesus, our Great Physician Mark 2:17, knows exactly what a sinner needs. The common sinner needs what only Jesus can prescribe. That is why we all need Jesus.
Bad teachers are bad physicians Mark 5:26. Nothing they prescribe helps your true condition. Only Jesus heals the soul forever.
Sick souls need true healing
What a sick soul needs is true healing. They are like the woman in the crowd with Jesus in Mark 5:25-34.
25 A woman [in the crowd] had [suffered from] a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much [suffering] at the hands of many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but instead had become worse. – verse 25-26
Like that woman in the crowd Mark 5:25-34 with Jesus, sinners suffer at the hands of phoney physicians, spend all they have trying to get healed — and are “not helped at all”. At the hands of fakers they “instead had become worse”.
Seeking Jesus
The great thing about this story is that this woman was seeking Jesus – and Jesus healed her. Sinners need to seek Jesus.
“…she thought, “If I just touch His clothing, I will get well.”
Jesus heals the sick soul — those who approach Him with a sincere heart and faith – even just a little mustard seed faith Matthew 17:20. He said of her: “your personal trust and confidence in Me” — “has restored you to health”.
34 Then He said to her, “Daughter, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in Me] has restored you to health; go in peace and be [permanently] healed from your suffering.”
