Disturbing in the Old Testament

I look at what God has done, with disturbing events as recorded in the Old Testament, and I find Him quite disturbing. His anger, his violence, the deaths He caused, the revenge, the punishments…. I just can’t always get my mind around Him.

See: God still shows His displeasure dramatically – even today

PIC: Palehorse74_four_horsemen_of_apocalypse. Art by Pete Garcia. Rev310

I resolve these, my issues with God, by reading in the Bible about His innate nature, His amazing grace and mercy, His love for those who follow Him – and His utter rejection of sin. God is Holy and Righteous, which means He never sins, never errs, never fails, never changes, is always just, always loving, innerant in all He says.

I find similar issues in the New Testament: At times God is very disturbing with what He does, even with those who follow Him today. However…

* “I know Him [and I am personally acquainted with Him] whom I have believed [with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in the truth of His deity], and I am persuaded….” 2 Timothy 1:12

* God is faithful and absolutely trustworthy.

_________

Got Issues?
Maybe you have issues with God? It appears Paul had my same issues with God. And he said this about that: Paul grew to know God, he eventually believed God, and he came to a decisive point in his life where he was persuaded by God. Paul shared:

2 Timothy 1:12 “This is why I suffer as I do. Still, I am not ashamed; for I know Him [and I am personally acquainted with Him] whom I have believed [with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in the truth of His deity], and I am persuaded [beyond any doubt] that He is able to guard that which I have entrusted to Him until [a]that day [when I stand before Him].

_________

Be receptive and let God persuade you. Give Him a chance.

Just because I do not understand Him fully – is not reason enough for me to doubt Him. Jesus saved me. The Bible is full of reasons, and logic — to believe in the Name of Jesus and resolve to follow Him.

________
Romans 1:16
I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation [from His wrath and punishment] to everyone who believes [in Christ as Savior], to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
________

Who am I, in my limited scope of existence, me with my pea-brain as compared to His omniscience — that I would find fault with Almighty God? And those that do – Who do you think you are, anyway?

That is like Satan, who was so proud and self-confident… that He rebelled against God and sought to BE God. Not a good place to go. Don’t be the god of your own life. Many in Hell will have that type of inflated ego.

So does God ever say “What do you think, Joe? Jane, What should I do?”  Not a chance in Hell He will ever need us to explain what’s what. How audacious, vain, and proud anyone is to doubt God all their life.

He has shown us what is what in His recorded Words of the Bible. I will rather prefer to trust Almighty God — than reject Him because of my limited understanding of Him.  1

Reading the Bible we come to know God, believe God, and become persuaded by God to accept Him for all He is.

Disturbing in the New Testament
It is disturbing but true today – what God does.

1. Take, for example, the New Testament account of “hypocrisy and deceit” and “to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test” and “Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit” – the account of Ananias and Sapphira.

Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11.
Ananias and then his wife – lied, telling everyone they were donating 100% of the proceeds from a land sale. But in their greed they held back a portion, lying to God.

Ananias and Sapphira were taken out, dropped dead, because of their “hypocrisy and deceit“. God did that. Peter said, You “conceived this act [of hypocrisy and deceit] in your heart” and acted on it. Peter said, “…you two have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test“, and “Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit“.

Acts 5:3-5   3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and [secretly] keep back for yourself some of the proceeds [from the sale] of the land? 4 As long as it remained [unsold], did it not remain your own [to do with as you pleased]? And after it was sold, was the money not under your control?

Why is it that you have conceived this act [of hypocrisy and deceit] in your heart? You have not [simply] lied to people, but to God.” 5 And hearing these words, Ananias fell down suddenly and died; and great fear and awe gripped those who heard of it….

Acts 5:7-10   7 Now after an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me whether you sold your land for so much?” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “How could you two have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Look! The feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.” 10 And at once she fell down at his feet and died….

It starts in the heart: “you have conceived this act…in your heart“. Scripture warns: Guard your heart. See: 4 Bible results for “Guard your heart”.

See more about “Guard your heart” in these references in one link or singly: Proverbs 24:12, Luke 21:34, Philippians 4:7, 1 John 5:21.

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].

2. Take, for example, God’s warning about taking communion without respect for Him – keeping your sin unconfessed. Do you know what God says He does because certain folks at church failed to prepare for communion? Failed to confess known sin to Him?

See: 1 Corinthians 11:20-34. What a scary thing God does here.

1 Corinthians 11:26-29   26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are [symbolically] proclaiming [the fact of] the Lord’s death until He comes [again].

27 So then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy [of Him] will be guilty of [profaning and sinning against] the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But a person must [prayerfully] examine himself [and his relationship to Christ], and only when he has done so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks [without solemn reverence and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice of Christ], eats and drinks a judgment on himself if he does not [a]recognize the body [of Christ].

areless and unworthy participation in communion
Partaking of communion, participating without a repentant heart, or without repentance when you are in active sin, or having an attitude “without solemn reverence and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice of Christ” (v30)… can bring-on God’s very real and present punishment upon you, physically.

This does not mean you loose your salvation, but – He may allow sickness or actually take you Home “before your time”, so to speak.

The consequences
This is a warning to us – even in this modern day: “whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy [of Him] will be guilty of [profaning and sinning against] the body and blood of the Lord.”

The act of communion is a spiritual act of commemoration. Some so-called Christians partake carelessly. Ignorance is no excuse.

Scripture warns us: If you disrespect God’s sacrifice with “careless and unworthy participation”  then you “will be guilty of [profaning and sinning against] the body and blood of the Lord.”

It is no small thing to disrespect God. We owe it to God to and fellow believers to “respect Christ’s sacrifice and his fellow believers for whom Christ also died.”

The consequences are disturbing, and happening even to this day: You eat and drink a judgment on yourself.

1 Corinthians 11:29-30
29 For anyone who eats and drinks [without solemn reverence and heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice of Christ], eats and drinks a judgment on himself if he does not [j] recognize the body [of Christ].“

30 That [careless and unworthy participation] is the reason why many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep [in death].

The BibleGateway Footnote for verse 29 [j] explains we must recognize the body of Christ properly, in the sense of: “respect Christ’s sacrifice and his fellow believers for whom Christ also died.”

If we participate in a communion service with unconfessed sin in our heart, then we disrespect Christ. That is a huge offense with Him, obviously. With it we diss and insult God and others. See: MerWeb: diss and insult. Really want to do that?

Avoid the displeasure of God. Simply confess your sins before partaking. Simple.

With a sincere heart, and godly sorrow for sin — we then stand perfect before God in that moment. God is that forgiving. He is more than willing to forgive and restore fellowship with Himself.

Don’t hide sins in your heart. “Great fear and awe” is quite the motivator, you think? Verse 5

Paul warns us: Many Christians are “weak and sick, and a number sleep [in death]“. Are you weak or sick, or…soon to be dead? Maybe this is why. The consequences are easy to miss (because it does not happen on the spot like with Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11.)

It is not ours to judge others, of course. We don’t know the why’s and wherefore’s. We can’t know the heart of man, nor know what God is doing, nor what He isn’t doing.

Verse 30 That [careless and unworthy participation] is the reason why many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep [in death].

3. Take, for example, God’s warning about falling into apostasy. Connect the dots to Jesus who said “Depart from Me”.

This prophetic word from Jesus is recorded by both Matthew and Luke. The context is Matthew 7:15-24 and Luke 13:23-30.

Luke 13:27
but He will say to you,
‘I do not know
where you are from;
depart from Me,
all you evildoers
!’

See: Speaking with love about what is true and what is false

4. Take, for example, God’s warning to not mess with His Word. The warning from God is a warning to NAR-type Charismatics who are changing what Jesus started – to the point where it doesn’t save you

Excerpt from: The logic of “If this – then that” to explain useless faith
If what your preacher preaches is not truth, then what you believe is “vain [imaginary, unfounded, devoid of value and benefit—not based on truth]” – 1 Corinthians 15:14-15.

This is what is happening in the apostate church of today.

They were not really of us.

Respect God Almighty – don’t reject Him
Do you reject your child when he or she is disturbing to you? Of course not. And even less so – God Almighty who is so far beyond our ability to understand fully. What a tragedy beyond imagining – to end in Hell because of a rebellious streak you kept beyond your childhood.

Pure Gospel Verses about Salvation

Oh how marvelous   Excerpt: Marvelous grace.  To a sinner, what else could be so marvelous? God’s grace, that “un-merited” bestowing of a blessing on me.  Just because of Him.  Just because He chooses to do so within His Heavenly legal system.

What marvelous grace of the damning God, who would go so far out of His way to “un-condemn” me, to “un-do” His “God damn”, His damnation of me, to save me forever for Himself.  To love me – at all.  That is the grace of God.

So, what about a real God damn?  In contrast with a damning by a person: What’s a God damn like?  What will it be like to stand before Creator God on Judgement Day, and receive His wrath? …Can you feel the finality of it all in that moment?

This is why God shows us His list of what is not acceptable to Him: because God loves all sinners and wants each of us to get forgiven and be made ready for His Holy Home Heaven.  1

Unless we reject our sins, we have no forgiveness. We remain damned. God is asking each of us: repent of your sin — and follow Him.

What it means to walk in the Light – not in Darkness

Double-minded means both loving Jesus AND loving a different gospel…What it means

The logic of “If this – then that” to explain useless faith  – …looking into 1 Corinthians 15:1-23   Excerpt: …Both would be a farce. Both (1) the preaching by Paul, and (2) the belief by the Corinthians. How very very important is truth.

The very same effect, “If this – then that“, is true of our personal preaching and faith. If what your preacher preaches is not truth, then what you believe is “vain [imaginary, unfounded, devoid of value and benefit—not based on truth]”.

This is what is happening in the apostate church of today.

Oh what a day that will be!
Wow! To enter into the Kingdom of God - freely as His redeemed child. No cringing in shame, no burden of sinfulness before Almighty Holy God. I can only imagine.

Jesus, the second man, is the Lord from Heaven
"The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.” In 1 Corinthians 15:47 the Apostle Paul explained that Jesus, while on earth, was absolutely God-man.  He was not a mere man, ever.

There Is Only One God
Getting tired of people flippantly saying, ¨Oh my god!¨ Ever wonder who their ¨god¨ is!? Does that ¨god¨ know he is ¨theirs¨? Do you say that? We are quite the god-makers, are we not! What do you mean…“your God”?

God Is Not Distant
God is not some far away, distant-from-you, dis-concerned bubble of energy, inside some aura of mist on a mysterious planet far far away…. “And the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” –Psalm 121:8

When it comes to God, who wants mere opinions?
When talking “God” and “Truth” – I really do not care what you think. You should not care what I think. What matters is “what God thinks”.
Lost I Came To Him
Oh the wonder of that love of our fathomless Creator, to save me in spite of my self-centered soul. Lost and rebellious, He chose me. Pursued and wooed, what mystery – grace. I said yes to Creator God. To know…
Time as it really is
Since Heaven is not regulated by time, the passage of time on earth is a separate event. *We will all step out of time together – into God’s presence, with no “time lag”,…The time it takes to go from earth to God's presence - is instant. There is no waiting around in the next dimension for earth time to finish, no midway point of gathering, no Purgatory. It will be an instantaneous experience for all mankind that ever lived. At the moment of death, our soul instantly leaves....

No Tolerance for Error
God is not sloppy nor wishy-washy.... There is no room at all – for error – when it comes to being right with God. You are either all in, or you are all out. Are you sure you’re in?
Simple View of Life
A simple view of everything. God of Everything that is – created everything. We are very fortunate that He is loving and kind, and really, really wants us.
Ashamed of Yourself?
Ever done something you are ashamed of?  Come on now, you’re sitting there by yourself – ‘fess-up.  Nobody listenin’ to your brain confess.  So... Yes?  Scenario: “You have? What!?
Being Christian What's it like these days to be a Christian? Really a Christian. For many, what the Bible teaches is generally okay, but, when it comes to certain specificities, what it says, they reason, needs to be interpreted in the light of today's enlightened realities. But -- will that work in - The End - when we stand before Him, physically? Stop and think about that Day.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the fool’s day. Tomorrow may never come. I may not get older. This may be it. 3.18.2017
Vortex of Good & Evil As mere humans, we are engulfed in the vortex of battle between good and evil. We must remember – it is God who created us, not we ourselves.
What God has going on with us here on this planet
God downloaded to earth ...inserted Himself into our history.  Jesus came to earth in order to satisfy the Courts of Heaven for our freedom.

Cognitive Dissonance
...that extreme feeling of discomfort some folks get when their core belief is challenged or contradicted. What they think (“cognitive”) is rattled (dissonance) by what other evidences purport to be true – in direct conflict with what they hold to be “true”.
Actually Try To Do The Deed “It’s not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done better."

What God Did for Man
…The Simple Gospel of Jesus Christ. God walked the earth as a man. Have you ever wondered how it all got started – the universe, the earth, nature, animals, you and your “like”, mankind?
The Bible is “able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation”
Do you honestly want to know how to get right with God?  Jesus promised He would save us for an eternity of only good, nothing bad.

  • Vile To Jesus (8,450)
God allows us total freedom to do whatever the hell we want.  We love to be freeeeee!  That tends to give us such a sense of "yippeeee!" that, as a consequence... our life can kind of get out of control. In the grip of our "yippeeee" lifestyle, we forget God and His ways.  It's just too […]
  • Ashamed of Yourself? (3,184)
Have you ever done something you are ashamed of? God does not overlook and excuse sin (Romans 1: verse 18).  Never has.  Never will.  However, Jesus dealt with the sins of others in a much more merciful manner than we tend to do with our self and our sins - and the sins of others. […]
  • The Passion Translation (TPT) and why not to use it (3,052)
The translation done by Brian Simmons, called The Passion (TPT), is not a faithful translation of the original.  It is very much fraught with misleading words Simmons adds into the text (..."it is at least 50% longer than the original").  Good Christians should want to go to more accurate translations, and not ever use this deviant […]
  • Getting Born Again (1,612)
Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” In God's legal system, all of mankind is condemned to hell because we are naturally unable to be holy ["holy" = without sin].  He cannot have sin in His Kingdom.  Makes sense: He is holy!  […]
  • This is God speaking (1,547)
This is a satire about the way God might discuss theology with the NAR-types. Don't get all in a huff. It's satire!
  • Jesus Knows Your Thoughts (1,521)
God is able to see into the innermost parts of your heart.  He knows what you feel.  He knows what you want.  He knows your thoughts.  Even before you speak a word -- He knows what you are going to say! God hears me as I speak to him silently in my mind - in […]
  • That Moment In Time (1,480)
There is a certain moment in time when everything changes, when a mere human is transformed by God into a completely different type of human. That moment changes everything for that person. Nothing is the same anymore. A new creature has been born – really and truly “born again” into new life in Christ. This […]

  • Befuddled and Besmirched (1,415)
Is your "happy" gone? What's your problem?  We all have sin we should be working on.  But we do not have to continue in our sin, vile to Jesus.  I try to practice admitting I was wrong. We can turn to God in prayer, confess it all, repent of it all....
  • Signs of an unrepentant heart (1,270)
The unrepentant heart makes excuses for sin (vile things before God).  What do I  support - that is "not of God"? ...in my personal practices, in my politics, in my relationships, in my mind and heart?  We rationalize so well, we fool ourselves! What does your life "evidence"?
  • Inexplicable Joy (1,237)
Heaven is a joyful place. That is hard for me to imagine... Everywhere I look around me, I see so many problems, issues and unresolved conflicts. But in heaven, they won't exist anymore. There will only be joy because my sins have been paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ.  One of the main […]

There is a saving knowledge of Christ, and there is a false knowledge about Christ.  One connects you to God and saves you.  The other does not lead to Creator God.  Do you know the difference?
  • God’s System of Justice (1,193)
Let’s look at the real God and His very real system of justice. Let’s look at this from within what His book tells us. These are the parts of God’s system:
  • God Damned “Believers” (1,175)
Almighty God has provided a very specific justice system to clear our name and our well-deserved verdict of "Guilty".  He has deemed that through a genuine faith in Jesus Christ - the sacrifice of His Son can make us worthy.  Is your faith genuinely in the genuine Jesus? Have you been declared "worthy", or are […]
  • The Confuscating John Pavlovitz (1,167)
This post is a warning to the Church against false teachers. In this day of instant communication, rarely deeply thought through, we need to be careful who we listen to. We need to be warned about these wolves in sheep's clothing.Jesus named names. The Apostle Paul named names. False teachers spout a lot of their […]
  • My Heinous Heinous Ways (1,160)
There is a tendency to think that - because I have sinned, therefore God does not like me, doesn't want me, and, boy is He miffed at me!  But that is not what the Bible teaches.  That is not what Jesus practiced.  So why are folks so condemning of people who fail!? At this time […]

Are you practicing sin?  Is there sin you constantly practice?  Have you grown accustomed to accepting ["your" sin] as okay with God?   Are you okay with the practices of your life? Scripture teaches us very clearly what is obviously ...NOT following Christ.  In fact, we are warned that "that those who practice such things will […]

  • The Other Side (1,031)

  • False Prophets (1,029)
"You may be asking yourselves, “How can we tell if a prophet’s message really comes from the Lord?”" -Deuteronomy 18:21. How can we distinguish the true from the false?
